A fashion league affair

As you all might have read, we were invited by Splash fashions to attend their Spring/Summer 2013 fashion show in Dubai a few weeks ago. Thrilling experience! Great hospitality and not to forget the enormous dose of fun we had! We had the opportunity to go backstage before the show started and see the pieces for ourselves, feel the fabric, play with the props and also meet the entire team of coordinators, stylists, makeup artists and not to mention the models. All were smiles and ready to strike a pose!

As the night progressed, and we were anxiously waiting for the show to start we cannot help but fathom the amount of work and effort put into the show, everything really did fall into the theme of the year, 'Fashion league'! The models strutted their stuff in what seemed to be an Olympic field all dressed to impress, the looks that walked down the ramp sported trends from the 60's, the Gatsby, warriors, new mod, preppy resorts and dapper schoolboys! all put together and styled in a sporty theme inspired by our favorite games, from baseball and tennis to horseback riding, fencing and wrestling! A lot of fierce props with big hair and bold makeup were in order! Cheerleaders were flown from Germany especially for the show! Splash really knows how to go all out and bring out a spectacular night

The show kicked off with the women's collection, a lot of monochromatic graphic prints and stark contrast blocking were shown reflecting that modernist cool, then came some tribal, reptile and kaleidoscope prints which were insane! Easy fabrics from georgettes, chiffons to soft knits in shades of fuchsia, citrus and ombre were key on the runway, along with some floral prints and pastels that reflected that 60s mood and a mixture of sparkles, sequins, metallics and mermaid gowns gone urban sport.

For men, hooded coats in parachute silks and jersey, varsity jackets, parkas, slim blazers and easy fit shorts and pants are all strong options as well as hints of camouflage and geometric prints. Explosively optimistic this season, deep tangerine, lemon yellow, Caribbean blue and neon all combined with pastels and neutrals for a fresh feel.

And the Grand Finale, where Raza Beig walked the runway along with guest Salman Khan and Nisha Jagtiani.

Song of the day: So I put my faith in something unknown, I've been living on such sweet nothing, But I’m trying to hope with nothing to hold, I'm living on such sweet nothing. And it’s hard to learn, And it’s hard to love, When you’re giving me such sweet nothing.
